NPK 17-17-17 is one of the standard balanced compound formulations used in Kenyan agriculture. The equal N:P:K ratio supports general-purpose top-dressing across maize, sorghum, sugar cane, horticulture and pasture, and is a workhorse blend in the National Fertilizer Subsidy Programme.

Application
NPK 17-17-17 is the dominant top-dressing fertilizer in the National Fertilizer Subsidy Programme. The September 2024 NCPB tender called for NPK 17-17-17 across 19 offers with bid prices ranging KES 3,800–5,800 per 50-kg bag. The blend is routinely shipped to NCPB depots at Eldoret, Kitale, Bungoma, Nakuru, Nandi, Meru and Kisumu for distribution into the long-rains and short-rains application windows.
For maize in Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu, NPK 17-17-17 at 50 kg per acre at planting or first top-dressing is the standard application. For sugar cane in West Kenya and Kibos, NPK 17-17-17 is applied at the early-tilling stage. For horticulture (vegetables, French beans, snow peas for export) NPK 17-17-17 is applied as a maintenance top-dressing alongside NPK 13-13-21 or specialty blends.
