EU/UK note: Russian and Belarusian-origin wood is prohibited for import into the EU and UK under Council Regulation 833/2014 / 765/2006; lawful for Kenyan import. Buyers with EU/UK downstream offtake should verify own export-channel risk; the EUDR introduces downstream traceability requirements from end 2025 / 2026 — see the timber overview and Sanctions, AML & KYC.

Application

Russian and Belarusian softwood sawn timber addresses the structural shortfall in Kenyan plantation supply since the 2018 indigenous-forest moratorium. The dominant Kenyan use cases:

  • Construction formwork and scaffolding — pine boards and beams
  • Structural framing — light residential, commercial fit-out
  • Furniture component supply — for downstream finished-furniture manufacture
  • Pallet and packaging manufacture — ISPM-12 compliant raw stock
  • Joinery and trim — KD planed pine and spruce

Compliance

  • KEPHIS Import Permit lodged in advance
  • Phytosanitary Certificate from origin NPPO
  • ISPM-12 fumigation stamp for wood packaging or compliant treatment for sawn timber
  • KEBS Certificate of Conformity (SGS / Bureau Veritas)
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Treatment for Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (pinewood nematode) per Russian export protocol
  • COA / grading certificate
  • EAC CET: HS 4407.11.00 (pine, spruce sawn). 0% raw materials band
